Artist notes: This was my first painting of 2021. We went on a lovely walk around Reading on New Year’s Day and really enjoyed watching this tiny grebe stare down all the big geese on the Kennet. I loved his/her feistiness and wanted to capture it in paint before the memory faded. I did take some photos to use as reference so might revisit this subject again as it’s a happy memory.
