Sunrise, sunset

Seascapes 51: week 21

Enjoy the sunrise and the sunset at Britannia Bay in this week's Seascapes 52, as a celebrate the opening of the Seasonal Colours exhibition.

Ok, it's last week's Seascapes 52 tbh. I didn't get the blog out in time as I was busy putting up the Seasonal Colours exhibition at the Otley Courthouse.

Seasonal Colours features work created by 5 Otley artists: Kirsty Clarke, Jo Crowther, Sandra Flitcroft, Vanessa Plews and yours truly, Jeanne-Louise Moys. We're a group with diverse approaches and influences but we meet regularly to share our love for creating and support each other as local artrepreneurs. This is our first group exhibition. It's extra special to hold it at the Courthouse in the heart of our lovely community-spirited hometown.

The entrance display includes a creation from each of us: Sandra (top left), Vanessa (bottom left), Kirsty (centre), Jo (bottom right), Jeanne-Louise (top right):

Before the day, my seascape in this display, was inspired by early morning sunrise walks at Britannia Bay in South Africa. There's something magical about watching early morning shadows turn into silhouettes against the sky and then transform into a glowing scene. Here's a better view of the painting:
This oil painting depicts the eastern side of the beach. And, in fact, it's not the only version of this side I've painted. An earlier version hangs pride of place in a friend's living room. See if you can spot it among my collector testimonials.
You may be more familiar with the view towards the western side of the beach. In fact, the sunset side is featured in my Land and sea collection and was the focus of the 7th Seascapes 52 blog:

Seasonal colours includes over 100 creations, lots of wall art plus jewellery, coasters, scarves and other woven creations. Within the exhibition, I'm displaying 13 hung paintings and a selection of smaller flower studies in the browsers. The exhibition is on at the Otley Courthouse until 30 June. Hope you get a chance to pop in. Make sure you don't miss out, there's work in the entrance area, cafe and bar, main hall and upstairs.

We're also hosting a meet the artists event as part of the exhibition. Join us between 12 and 2 on the 12 June to find out more about our art approaches and work.

Before the day is available (at the time of writing) from the Otley Courthouse. Britannia Bay is available (at the time of writing) in my Land & sea collection.

Join me again next week for the next seascape instalment featuring more creations from the exhibition.
