Looking back on 2022 – part 1: sunflower tutus

Earlier in 2022, before I moved up north, I was honoured to be invited to undertake a flower tutu commission as a gift for a relative of one of my lovely collectors.

Working primarily outdoors in the sunshine, I created two versions adapted from a sunflower tutu Ballettoon I had sketched a few years previously. One of these became the commission and the other has joined my flower tutu collection.

The recipient of this painting is a Ukrainian dance lover and so the sunflower and colour symbolism in this was intentional. I was grateful for the opportunity to express my prayers and hopes for peace in paint. A very small gesture in the bigger scheme of things but a heartfelt one nonetheless.

P.S. If you're looking for art materials tips, I highly recommend the Ampersand art panels (see photo collage). These are excellent quality and great to paint on. I've tried both the smooth and textured panels. I like both but I've just ordered some more textured ones, so think I might be leaning towards those.
